How are you guys handling web / app design?

I'm a good programmer but I suck at design. how are you guys handling the design of your sites or apps? Do you make designs first of every page or just go with the flow? And what tools are you using? I know many people use figma

If you want to have a full design system in Figma, I would recommend Untitled UI. Used it and it's very good.
If you are using React to build the UI then shadcn will do the job very well, you have some websites with marketing blocks that are very nice to use.

I'm basically in the same position as you, working as a SWE but I don't have any design skills. These two things I mentioned gave me everything I need to build.

I'm in the same boat as you. I learned some of the basics from this course - https://www.learnui.design/ which helped me learn about the basics like alignment, sizing, spacing and typography. And also how gray is the most important color. I haven't completed the full course yet. But spending some time on the basics helped a lot.

I also go with the flow. I am one of those "when I get to the bridge I'll cross it" persons
No use designing the whole app, when I don't even know all the features that would be contained in the app.

I am in the exact same boat as you i tried creating the whole app with uizard wireframe -> UI / UX -> transfer it to code. But it felt like it took me a loot of time soo i decided i will just go with the flow take inspiration from templates or just use v0 to create and the add the final details myself. I prefer to spend my time on the backend than trying to figure out a design.

Vincent
I make raw designs with pen and paper (more like wireframes) and then get straight to programming 😎

I am not that technical like Vincent, I just go with the flow. first I prepare the sections and their content using chatgpt. I use v0.dev and lovable.dev, they are good at designing. Take a look https://glassy-image-alchemist.vercel.app, I designed it using these tools , didn't write single line of code, all I wrote was prompts.
