I'm excited to introduce VT Chat – a minimal AI chat application with true local-first architecture and advanced research capabilities.

What makes it different:

Your conversations stay completely local in IndexedDB with zero server storage. Your API keys never leave your browser – I can't see them even as the developer. Switch seamlessly between 15+ AI models including Claude 4 Sonnet/Opus, O3, Gemini 2.5 Pro, and DeepSeek R1 across OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and other providers.

Built with Next.js 14, TypeScript, and Turborepo. Fully open source for self-hosting. The hosted version keeps core features free, with optional VT+ for premium models and advanced research.

What started as a weekend experiment became a year-long journey through many iterations. I've learned tremendously from the open-source community and builders sharing their work publicly.

Yes, our platform provides free access to all major LLMs through two approaches:

1. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) - Unlimited Free Access
Access all premium models including: Claude 4 Sonnet, GPT-4o, GPT-4o-mini, GPT-4.1, Gemini 2.5 Pro, Flash, Flash Lite, And many more through OpenRouter.

2. Server-Funded Models - No Setup Required
For Gemini models specifically, we provide free daily usage:
* Free Users: 20 requests/day for Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite (5 requests/minute)
* VT+ Users: Enhanced limits across all Gemini models
100 requests/day for Flash Lite
50 requests/day for Flash
25 requests/day for Pro
Limits reset daily at 00:00 UTC

Currently, my main competitors including ChatGPT and Perplexity, also Gemini App. They are giants, but with VT I hope to get AI to become more accessible for everyone.

I see those as more foundation models. It sounds like you are using a combination of those models to get an answer. So there is no one who is doing multi-modal LLM chats? I.ie connecting various LLMs to get an answer

Yes, I provide the ability for users to switch between foundation models easily, without having to use multiples apps/tabs. Imagine all-in-one place where you can get answer from favorite models like Claude Sonnet 4, Gemini 2.5 Pro or gpt-4o ...etc

What powerful with multi-modal LLM chat is that, for certain models they already equipped with super-power like they can see image and understanding document. But the production chat app like ChatGPT or Gemini hide away these capabilities with drop down or action. VT offers these actions right in the chat input box.
