Hey Everyone,
I'm new to the platform. Came across the a post on Reddit featuring this site so figured I'd hang out here. What are your thoughts on the idea?
Right now I'm working an MVP for the for the app:
- This will be a platform that aims to support and connect local communities. The platform will give users the ability to search through listings locally(Exchange, Gifting, Buying/Selling).
- Sellers will be able to open "Storefronts".
- Social events, groups and feed.
- Ability to coordinate courier services between users who "volunteer" and users who are requesting services.
- Rating/trust system for users who are active on the platform.
I'm looking to capture users who are:
- Fed up with current social media or are using Discord/Whatsapp and other messaging apps
- Local CSAs
- Already have a storefront on Etsy, Ebay, etc.

I have some groups that I'm in(Mutual aid, no buy, grassroots orgs, etc) so I plan to target users there first. The application doesn't have to replace the bigger players, I think it just has to provide a better hyperlocal, community-building experience.
I'm brand new to entrepreneurship so I don't really have real marketing plan except to reach out to users who would most likely be interested and run ads(Probably not great at the start...)
I could do some local marketing/networking here by going to events(farmers markets, finding local vendors in my area, hanging out at music/art venues.) I want to focus on getting traction in my city first. I'm thinking through the platform architecture and could possibly decentralize it later but that will be way down the road.

However, attracting users might be the biggest challenge. There are already so many established platforms, so getting people to switch over or adopt something new could be tough.
If you focus on adding a unique twist that those platforms don’t offer, you could stand out. But I think it’ll require some solid marketing and a really clear value proposition to get people onboard.
Good luck with it! How are you thinking about user acquisition?
